Fitna vs. Akhirat

on 7:13 PM

Title of this entry refers to the two latest film & documentary that were released in the last 2 weeks.

Fitna: A short documentary, 15 minutes, from Netherland. Produced by Geert Wilders, a far Right MP in the Netherland's States General (i.e. Parliament). This video is available at JihadWatch website. Though the documentary has been removed from LiveLeak, the original video-sharing website where it was first posted, it is still available at Google Video right now.

It has sparks anger among Muslims throughout the world. Hundreds of organisations and influential figures, including our ex-Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have condemn the release of the documentary. It falsely accuse the Quran as the source of violence, terrorism and oppression in the world.

Akhirat: A film from that was released in Malaysia last week. (You can watch the movie trailer at You Tube or read the review from Faisal Tehrani at his blog.) Currently the official website of the movie is down, and I'm still waiting for the movie torrent.

The producer of the film (note: a non-Muslim) said that the movie was inspired by the introduction of Islam Hadhari. Sadly, it portrayed some Muslims as having a free and westernized life, without any real connection with the movie title. I believe that if the script writers, director, actors and actress really understand the meaning of Akhirat and can imagine the punishment after it, the movie, after all, will not be produced.

Both of these productions use 'Islamic' titles to attract attention from both muslims and non-muslims alike. But unfortunately the values (i.e. theme, substance) are not Islamic at all.

The documentary sparks anger among Muslims, but wait! How about the film?
Does anyone has concerns about it? Where are our umara' and ulama'?
Where are the muslims? Where are the people who declare themselves as the protectors of Islam and the muslims?

Why is this "form and substance theory" can't be understood by our people?
We put a major concern on the "form", but not the "substance".

We care about how something looks like, and ignore what is actually inside.
We like the good names and labels, rather than the content.

We write everything on paper, but we don't practice it in the real world.
We remember the historical dates, but forgot the values.

When are we going to change?
